Hilton Head Plantation Recreation/Activities

Throughout the year, the HHPPOA Activities/Recreation Department plans a wide variety of exciting activities and events for the diverse population of the Plantation. They include special events, seminars, classes workshops, and much more. The activities are held at various POA facilities (Plantation House, Spring Lake Pavilion, Dolphin Head Recreation Area, Spring Lake Community Pool, Practice Ball Field, or Spring Lake Recreation Area).

For the youth of the Plantation, a summer recreation program - Kids Kamp - is held each summer. In addition, a variety of clubs are available for participation by all residents of the Plantation.

We pride ourselves in our ability to provide and meet the needs of the different age groups that comprise the Hilton Head Plantation community. Detailed information is available in the monthly publication of the Plantation Living newsletter.

Plantation House

The building is an elegant air-conditioned and heated Lowcountry-style clubhouse located on Spring Lake Lagoon in the Spring Lake Recreation area. The building contains a large main room with a gas fireplace, kitchen, open gallery (upstairs), sound system, outdoor veranda, and a sweeping panoramic view of Spring Lake Lagoon, golf course, and beautiful homes. It is used for various POA activities, club meetings, socials, and can be rented for private use by property owners for weddings, receptions, birthdays, anniversaries, and other social events.

Spring Lake Pavilion

The Pavilion is an informal air-conditioned and heated clubhouse in a casual setting with an outdoor deck, fishing dock, fireplace, picnic tables, grill, and nearby playground. It contains a small kitchen, large meeting room, and indoor bathrooms. The building is located on Spring Lake Lagoon in the Spring Lake Recreation Area. It is used for various POA activities, club meetings, socials, and can be rented for private use by property owners for weddings, receptions, birthdays, anniversaries, and other social events.

Dolphin Head Recreational Building

The building is a small air-conditioned and heated clubhouse located in a casual setting on spectacular Port Royal Sound. It contains a small meeting room/kitchen area, and indoor gas fireplace. It is located on a large outdoor deck with connecting bathrooms. It also has an outdoor shower, grill, picnic tables, and horseshoe pit. Located nearby is a large playground and walking beach. The building is used for various POA activities, club meetings, socials, and can be rented for private use by property owners for weddings, receptions, birthdays, anniversaries and other social events.

Pine Island

This extraordinary portion of the Plantation contains a large marsh area and walking beach. It is located in the Dolphin Head Recreation area and is on the Intercoastal Waterway of Port Royal Sound. The beach is treasured and enjoyed by all Plantation residents for walking, sunning, and fishing. Located nearby is the Dolphin Head Recreation playground, a picnic area, and mile-long walking path along spectacular Port Royal Sound.

Pool

The Community Swimming Pool is located at Spring Lake Recreation Area. It includes a 25-meter outdoor swimming pool, children's wading pool, sun decks, and bathhouses. The pool is utilized by residents for open and lap swimming as well as water aerobics classes. Pool hours can be found in the calendar section of our Web site.

Tennis

The Spring Lake Tennis facility is available for residents to use on an hourly or membership basis. The facility consists of a Pro Shop and 12 Har-Tru courts. Activities included informal tennis mixers, socials, round-robins, clinics, and tennis lessons taught by the Tennis Professional.

Playgrounds

Entertaining and challenging playgrounds are available for Plantation children at the Spring Lake Recreation Area and Dolphin Head Recreation Area.

Spring Lake Recreational Area

An open field is available for casual use such as informal field activities and fishing. The area contains a volleyball net, leisure path, and stocked fresh water lagoon.

Surrey Lane Ball Field

A practice ball field is available for all residents to use on a casual basis. Various members of local Dixie League baseball and soccer teams also may utilize it for practice (restrictions apply). Scheduling the ball field or soccer area is handled by the Scheduling Office at the Plantation House, tel. 681-8090.

Hilton Head Plantation Leisure Paths

More than seven miles of leisure paths are available throughout the Plantation for the residents to enjoy. Various paths are marked with information maps demonstrating where the particular path leads. The paths are shared with walkers, bikers, and residents rollerblading. Maps of our leisure path system are available at the POA Service Center on Surrey Lane, for a nominal fee.

Seabrook Farm

Plots are available for residents to grow vegetables, flowers, and herbs through membership in the Farmers Club. The Club operates the Farm in addition to hosting sales, socials, and monthly meetings. More details are available in the monthly Plantation Living newsletter.

Cypress Conservancy

This small, protected ecosystem is a 50-acre conservancy with large cypress trees, blooming water plants, marsh deer, and a great variety of birds. The conservancy is administered by the POA and Hilton Head Land Trust.

Whooping Crane Conservatory

This 127-acre conservancy is home to a wide variety of birds and animals native to this region. Osprey, owls, hawks, and many small birds nest here. Nature trails and a boardwalk meander through this preserved forest and wetland. Benches placed in quiet areas make this a wonderful place to observe nature. The property is administered by the POA and Hilton Head Land Trust.

Fishing in Hilton Head Plantation

Both fresh and saltwater fishing are available in the many lagoons and lakes throughout the Plantation. Please check the Rules and Regulations for specific information about fishing activities.

Special Events in Hilton Head Plantation

Throughout the year, the Department plans special events for the entire community. Some of the events are: Easter Sunrise Service, Trash & Treasure Sale, indoor and outdoor concerts, Hilton Head Plantation Day - July 4th, Children's Halloween and Christmas parties, Wine & Cheese Party, Pool Opening Party, cookouts (oyster roasts, shrimp boils, etc.), summer and holiday teas, and much more. Additionally, the Department arranges for on-site flu shots and cholesterol testing at special times of the year. Details can be found in the Plantation Living newsletter.

Kids Kamp (Children’s Summer Program)

The Kids Kamp Program is held each summer for children of the Plantation in grades K-8. They enjoy field activities, crafts, swimming, music, cooking, special events, and much more. All activities take place in Spring Lake Pavilion, deck and playground area, Spring Lake Pool, and recreation fields. Hours for the program are 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The program is managed by the Director of Activities, led by a camp director, and includes experienced college-age counselors. Applications forms are available at the POA Service Center.

Trips

Cultural and entertaining trips are planned throughout the year for the community. They include trips to the Savannah historic district and River Street, Charleston shopping and historic area, SC Aquarium, and much more.

Hilton Head Nature Series

Throughout the year, various nature seminars, walks, and beach explorations are planned as well as special trips to various barrier islands, kayaking excursions, and dolphin watch boat trips. They are all informative and fun for residents of all ages.

Classes

Several classes are held on a year-round basis, e.g., Low Impact Aerobics, Free Weights, Tai Chi Chuan, and Yoga. Special classes are held at various times of the year, e.g., water aerobics, dancing, computer, bridge, dog obedience, writing, AARP Driver Safety, Red Cross lifeguard training, scrapbooking, beauty, creating cards and gifts, plus whatever other classes that may be of interest to the residents.

Seminars at Hilton Head Plantation

Interesting, cultural, fun, and exciting seminars are planned for the residents throughout the year. Some of these are the Cooking Live Series, Good Health Seminar, insurance, medical, historic (Civil War), ecology, nature, fitness, and travel seminars. Some seminars are held off-premise (oystering and beach ecology at Hunting State Park).

Discount Theatre Program

The local playhouse offers a wide variety of Broadway-quality entertaining plays at a specially discounted rate to our residents. They are able to enjoy exciting performances throughout the year at a reasonable price without going to a metropolitan city for the experience.

Clubs

On an almost daily basis, one of the clubhouses is usually occupied by one or more of the POA-recognized clubs. They include the Women's Club (over 500 members), Newcomers, Dog Club, Gardening, Bridge, Farming, Yachting, Fishing, Crafts, Tennis Social, Dancing, Artists, Biking, Woodcarvers, Investing, and much more. Logowear

The POA is proud of the designer apparel line of men's and women's clothing with a specially designed logo. The line includes an assortment of shirts, sweatshirts, and hats. All are on sale at the POA Service Center.

HHPPOA License Plates

Residents can proudly display attractive license plates for their cars in two designs. Each plate is reasonably priced and available at the POA Service Center.

Volunteer Support Program

The Plantation has very special residents who volunteer their time, skills, and knowledge for various good deeds on the Plantation. Besides volunteering for the Board of Directors and POA committees, they have also participated in the completion of important mailings to property owners, special events (July 4th), Easter Sunrise Service, and much more. If you are interested in becoming part of this "exclusive" group of special people, you can fill out an application, which is available at the POA Service Center.

Memorial & Honorarium Program

This program gives residents the opportunity to purchase an article (picnic table, etc.) in memory of a loved one or special person in their life and donate it to the Plantation. At the donor's request, it is placed in a specific area with a plaque noting the person they are honoring. Applications for donations are available at the POA Service Center.
